Robotics Competitions Inside Iran — From IranOpen to University Cups

Before any world stage comes the domestic one. Iran's robotics calendar is busy, with entry points at several levels.

1. Top-tier events

  • RoboCup IranOpen — the country's largest event, running official RoboCup leagues plus Iran-only free leagues.
  • FIRA Cup Iran — the national FIRA stage, with strong school-age brackets and a route to the world final.

2. University cups

Many technical universities run their own annual robotics cup. These cost less and are ideal for a first outing:

  • Amirkabir University of Technology robotics cup (AUTCup)
  • Sharif University of Technology robotics competitions
  • Events at K. N. Toosi, Iran University of Science and Technology, Ferdowsi Mashhad, Shahrood, Kashan and many others
  • Contests across Islamic Azad University branches

League levels vary widely: line follower and micromouse through to simulation and rescue.

3. School-level and ministry contests

  • National student robotics competitions under the Ministry of Education
  • The robotics section of the Young Khwarizmi Festival
  • The national round of RoboCupJunior Iran, with Rescue Line, Maze, CoSpace and OnStage

These are usually enterable through the school and carry weight on a domestic academic record.

4. Provincial and academy events

Dozens of provincial contests run each year and are the best available "practice under real pressure". There is no fixed list; track them via your academy or provincial associations.

Recommended strategy: make the first appearance at a small provincial or university event, not at IranOpen. Stage nerves, time management and calibrating in an unfamiliar hall are skills built only by competing — better built first where the stakes are lower.

What an academy adds

The difference between professional and self-organised teams is access to a competition coach and a practice field. Novin Zehn Academy runs a separate preparation track for each league — from picking an age-appropriate league to a full mock competition day.

Frequently asked questions

Which event should be the first one?

A provincial contest or university cup with a simple league such as line follower — lower cost, lower stress, real field experience.

Do domestic placings matter on a record?

Yes. Placings at IranOpen, FIRA Cup Iran and national ministry competitions are taken seriously in Iranian academic and gifted-student files.

How do we find the dates?

From each event’s official call, provincial associations, and academies that run active competition teams. Dates move every year — never rely on last year’s.
