A 9-year-old figures out which sibling's voice the dog responds to fastest, and runs experiments. These are not random sparks. They're a developmental window — and what your family does with them shapes everything that follows.
What "early" actually means
Brain research is clear: the years between ages 3 and 12 are when foundational thinking habits — logic, problem decomposition, persistence in the face of frustration, curiosity itself — are physically built into the brain. Neural connections form at a pace adults will never match again. Whatever experiences a child has in these years tend to last a lifetime. Whatever opportunities are missed are very hard to make up.
The diaspora angle

What early learning is — and what it isn't
Early STEM learning isn't drilling 6-year-olds with Python syntax. It's the opposite: protecting the curiosity they already have and surrounding it with the right tools, peers, and small wins. A 7-year-old who builds a working contraption out of paper, magnets, and a battery has done more for their future engineering brain than a 12-year-old who passed a coding test under pressure.

Three myths that delay families abroad
- "Let them just be kids first." Play-based STEM is being a kid. The opposite of play isn't STEM; the opposite of play is rote drilling, which we avoid.
- "They have to learn the local language first." Bilingual children develop both languages in parallel without harm. Adding a third literacy — coding — is well within their capacity.
- "We'll start in middle school." By middle school, the foundational habits are mostly set. Adding skills is harder. Better to begin small and steady at 7 than to scramble at 12.
