The FIRA football family is not only MiroSot. Three further leagues each change one variable and produce a completely different challenge.
AndroSot — humanoid football
Here the robots are small humanoids instead of cubes: two legs, two arms and the perennial balance problem. As in MiroSot there is an overhead camera and an external computer, but executing commands is far harder.
- The core difficulty: a robot told "go to point X" must do it by walking — so every motion command has to become a gait sequence.
- Falling: robots fall and must stand up; recovery speed is a genuine competitive edge.
- Kicking: striking with a foot while staying balanced is a project in itself.
AndroSot bridges MiroSot's simplicity and HuroCup's complexity.
RoboSot — vision on the robot
RoboSot makes one fundamental change: the overhead camera is removed. Each robot has its own camera, does its own processing and makes its own decisions — moving from a centralised system to a fully distributed one.
Structurally it resembles the RoboCup Middle Size League, at a smaller and more accessible scale.
NaroSot — the miniature version
NaroSot follows MiroSot's logic with much smaller robots. Shrinking creates new problems:
- Fitting battery, motors and a wireless receiver into a tiny volume
- Reliable colour detection on smaller markers
- Motion control with low inertia and more slip
It is more a miniature engineering challenge than a strategy one.
Which one to choose?
| If your team is strongest at… | Choose |
|---|---|
| Algorithms and strategy | MiroSot or SimuroSot |
| Machine vision and navigation | RoboSot |
| Mechanics and motion control | AndroSot |
| Electronics and miniature design | NaroSot |
Which leagues actually run varies by edition; check that year's call before planning.
Frequently asked questions
Which of the three is hardest?
AndroSot usually, because it needs a humanoid and balance control. RoboSot is the harder software problem since the robot must work everything out itself.
Do all of them run every year?
Not necessarily — the line-up varies by edition and between national and world events. The official call is the authority.
Which suits school students?
SimuroSot, then MiroSot. AndroSot and RoboSot generally suit more experienced or university teams.
